Fine Motor Control Takes a Lot of Control
This editorial piece illustrates Dr. Valero-Cuevas’ paper on manual dexterity in the human hand - and aims to evoke its main themes without unnecessary attention to the gruesome aspects of the experiments (some were carried out with cadaver hands). The emphasis was on how complex a biomechanical problem it is to control the muscles of a human hand doing something as simple as picking up a coin (thereby combining movement and force).
